Rowan Catholle Mission.
Hongkong, 22nd. July, 1909.
I understand that Mr. James Sinnett chief
Warder is about to be dismissed from his post for being drunk.
As I take an interest in the man having
known him for 11 years I take the liberty to write you concern-
-ing him and to ask your assistance to see if the Government
could give him a pension instead of dismissing him from his
service where he had served for the last 15 years.
I have always known him as a sober and
quiet man and his conduct has so far as I am aware been very good. He has an aged father and mother alive depending upon
him for maintenance.
Since his return from Europe Sinnot was &
total abstainer and of late not feeling well he took some
stimulant with the result that he became slightly intoxicated
and was requested to go to the Hospital.
Sinnott previous to his being Warder in
the Gaol was a private in the Army for 7 years as such.
I beg most humbly to request you to see if
possible His Excellency the Governor and plead for a pension
for him.
I am etc**
